Old North State Brass

Who we are...

The members of this brass ensemble are all Triangle-area musicians who perform with the area’s concert bands, orchestras, and “big bands”. All are adults (some retired and some still in the middle their careers in a variety of professions) who have a passion for making music and wanted to experience doing so in a smaller, more collaborative group.

History

The ensemble began meeting regularly in January of 2009, and they have quickly developed a repertoire of music that encompasses classical, jazz, sacred and popular styles. Many of the arrangements the ONSB perform were originally written for the British Brass Band instrumentation, or have been specially arranged for this smaller combination. ONSB uses instruments that would be found in the typical British Brass Band: E-flat and B-flat cornets, flugelhorn, tenor horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and a variety of percussion intruments.
